Austin...and beyond

Writer: NancyNancy

We headed out down the 35 to Austin. It was cool being able to walk along and see if my memory was correct about certain areas.

This is the city where my two main characters meet for the first time so I wanted to be as accurate as possible with the specific areas mentioned.

As it turned out, on at least one area, I will be needing to rewrite a little piece...for accuracy.

It was fun walking around in the city again, not sure when we will be making the trek back out this way again...so I made sure to take an absolute ton of photos.

Next we headed west along the 71 toward San Angelo and finally along the 20 and Monahan's.

Its hard to put into words how strange and cool these odd little worn out towns and cities are. I know most people would probably see them as a blight on the landscape. However, if you take the time to get off the road and actually venture into town and have a small chat with some of the locals maybe in a local restaurant, you get to see how amazing life really is and that there really are so many different ways to live out this life.

We drove past many abandoned homesteads along the way. I have always found these fascinating. Someone long ago, put their all the energy and love into building and maintaining this little home.

I often wonder as we pass by these forgotten spaces along the road, what could have happened to make the people who built these little homes, abandon them? To have deserted all their hopes and aspirations leaving them to dissolve back into the earth slowly like it is.

Anyway, today we are heading south into Marfa and finally Terlingua. This is one of my favorite places to be so I cannot tell you how happy I am to be heading out down there again. It is the edge of civilization, so I honestly don't know if I will be able to be online at all when there. We shall see.
